Catch up with friends over a good bottle of wine

Reminiscing the good ol’ days is best done with good food and drinks in a cozy bar. That sounds like a pub somewhere in Poblacion, or a bar in Bonifacio Global City, or a fancy hotel and casino in Paranaque.

Enter Novotel Manila Araneta Center’s newest wine and tapas bar, Sabor Bar de Vinos. Located at the hotel’s lobby right in the heart of Cubao in Quezon City, the bar offers over 300 selections of wine and spirits displayed in a floor-to-ceiling, temperature-controlled glass cabinet. These are all hand-picked by the owner himself, president and chairman Jorge Araneta.

Here are some of the drink recommendations you can try:

Clarendelle by Haute-Brion Bordeaux Red Wine

This premium French wine is Jorge Araneta’s personal pick. It’s a wine that exhibits a balance between alcohol and acidity that Clarendelle by Haute-Brion Bordeaux is known for. It has cherry, plum, and floral aromas, while its aftertaste is fresh and fruity. Perfect for pairing with the Smoked Salmon Roulade.

Eclat de Rose Wine

This bright, pale pink drink is delicate to the taste and smell. It has red berry and white flower aromas, and has notes of mango and passion fruit. This fresh, French wine goes well with the Greek Salad Skewers made of fresh cucumbers and cherry tomatoes.

Sangria Blanco

Sabor takes pride in its Sangrias especially since the more mature customers particularly come back for it. Sangria Blanco is its lightest and most refreshing cocktail. It is made of white wine, apple, cucumber, lime juice, and fresh mint. It goes well with Bitter Ballen, which is a tasty and savory Dutch dish made of veal meat, mixed with parsley and onion.

Fortress de Sangria

A mix of red wine, brandy, orange juice, and sprite, Fortress de Sangria is what a traditional sangria is like. It is reddish in hue, while being fruity and fizzy to the taste. Perfect with Gallician Style Chicken Empanada stuffed with marinated chicken, herbs, olives, and pepper.

Sangria de Rose

With a rose wine base, tequila, apple juice, and sprite in one drink, Sangria de Rose is a twist to the traditional red wine sangria. The slight sweetness and fruity flavors makes it just as refreshing as Sangria Blanco. Perfect with Gambas Al Jillo made of plump prawn pieces in a rich sauce of garlic, butter, and white wine.

Sabor Bar de Vinos is open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 3 PM to 3 AM, at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center Ground Floor. Unlimited Sangria and Wines are available for P700. Wines start from P250 by the glass and P900 by the bottle. For more information, visit
