Senior citizen perks around Metro Manila
Take a look at the different benefits seniors get in some cities

As we mentioned in a previous article on senior citizen ID application, in the Philippines a senior citizen is anyone aged 60 years old and above. And as stated by RA 9994, the government gives them special benefits to assist them in their daily routines.

But apart from these country-wide benefits given by RA 9994, some cities in Metro Manila also have special perks for their resident senior citizens. The Good Life compiled some of the fun ones, which you can already experience if you’ve reached 60!

Quezon City
When Quezon City residents become senior citizens, they are eligible for an Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) card which entitles them to:

  • free parking in certain establishments
  • free use of pay restrooms
  • free access to movie theaters
    • limited to two films every Monday & Tuesday
    • from cinema opening to 5:00PM
    • doesn’t cover IMAX or 3D cinemas, “blockbuster” films within a week of initial of screening, and non-working public holidays

Resident senior citizens also get 18% discounts on medical and dental services within two weeks of their birthday, and are not required to pay a transfer tax when selling their house and lot (must be living in the original area for at least 10 years, and the citizen will have a new home within the next 18 months).

Quezon City centenarians (those who turn 100) also receive special perks such a certificate that recognizes their hundredth birthday. Others include:

  • Php10,000 cash incentive (and Php1,000 for every succeeding birthday)
  • monthly allowance of Php1,000
  • additional Php1,000 every Christmas

Manila
Resident senior citizens of Manila also become eligible for an OSCA card which entitles them to:

  • free medical checkups, hospitalization, medicine, and other healthcare services
  • free movies on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
  • Php500 on their birthday
  • occasional tours around the city

Manila senior citizens are also exempted from number coding schemes, and get free parking in the city. They are invited to participate in activities at Rizal Park such as coaching on landscaping and vegetable planting, aerobics, and gateball.

At local day-care centers or timbulan, seniors can have access to parlor games, haircuts, massages, and general check-ups. Centenarians get a Php100,000 cash incentive, and Php10,000 for every succeeding birthday).

Makati
When Makati residents turn 60, they are welcomed into their aptly named Tribe of Senior Citizens in annual grand party. They are also given BLU cards, which upon application entitles them to:

  • exemption from the number coding scheme (whether they are drivers or passengers)
  • cakes on their birthdays and 50th wedding anniversary
  • free groceries in December for Christmas
  • free access in movie theaters
    • Glorietta 1 and 4, Greenbelt 1 and 3, and Power Plant
  • Php100,000 cash incentive for centenarians
    • cash incentives for other ages range from Php2,000 to Php4,000
  • burial assistance of Php3,000
    • Php5,000 for World War II veterans
  • Lakbay Saya benefits
    • leisure tours around Metro Manila (free food and accommodation)
    • free access to monthly “Aawitan Kita” concerts at the University of Makati

Parañaque
In Parañaque, resident senior citizens get special benefits from the OSCA Cares Program, which include:

  • one-year movie pass on Mondays and Tuesdays in Parañaque SM cinemas
  • free medicine and grocery booklet for discount assistance
  • free dentures, dental services, and ophthalmic services
  • free laboratory examinations and medical check-ups during birth months
  • free PhilHealth card for indigent citizens
  • Php500 birthday gift (in June or December, depending on one’s birthday)
  • Php500 year-end gift (every October)
  • Php2,000 financial grant for in the event of decease

Parañaque senior citizens with valuable contributions to the city or country are also given plaques and gift products.

Other City’s Perks

Pasig

  • blue card entitlement to:
    • free birthday cakes
    • free hospitalization at Pasig City General Hospital
    • Php2,000 every December for Christmas
  • free prescribed medication and anti-pneumonia & anti-flu shots
  • free movies at two malls

Las Piñas

  • OSCA assistance in:
    • access to medicine booklets for medicine discounts
    • agriculture booklets for agricultural discounts
    • DTI booklets for basic commodity discounts
  • free movie accesson Mondays and Tuesdays at SM Southmall, Robinsons Las Piñas, and Vista Mall
  • Php500 monthly allowance for indigent citizens

Malabon

  • special gift during their birthday month
  • free parking in public and private establishments for first three hours
  • free access to movies once a week

  2. It is stated that free parking for senior citizen in mla….how come they always charge me when i park at the malls here in mla like sm mla robinsons ermita, also it is also stated that we, senior citizen are exempted sa number coding? Thank you
