Love is in the air, and in the music. Nothing ever sounds as sweet as a love song and these two artists know a thing or two about such things.
Ogie Alcasid headlines “Master of Love”, a Valentine’s Day concert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila, as he performs some of the greatest love songs ever heard.
Joining him is the newly honored National Artist for Music, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, who has also written some of the most iconic love songs of all time. Accompanying them on stage are the Ryan Cayabyab Singers, and guest performers Mariel de Leon, Lara Maigue, and Tanya Manalang.
Love song selections
The songs that will be performed at “Master of Love” were specifically chosen by Alcasid, “Mr. C just had to eat his pancit and say ‘okay’”, the singer joked. His explained his selections as “people want to hear songs that will make them feel like it’s Valentine’s.”
So if it’s the tunes of Basil Valdez, Hajji Alejandro, the late Rico J. Puno, or even those by Alcasid and Cayabyab themselves, rest assured that your fondest memories of your first kiss, first date, or discovering true love will come flowing through the night.
On what makes a good love song, Cayabyab says “The writer has to have a little experience [with love], or they can turn to friends and their stories.” Alcasid said with a grin, “Lahat na-experience ko na (I’ve experienced it all).
Alcasid added how different love songs were before than they are today, “It’s also about language, my daughter says sometimes ‘it’s too cheesy’, I guess this generation writes differently.”
Because the concert is on Valentine’s Day, Cayabyab has ensures his wife will be in attendance. Meanwhile Alcasid’s wife, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, will have her own concert, but the singer said “Everyday is Valentine’s Day with her.”
Master of Love will be on Feb. 14, 2019 at 8PM. Tickets are now available at ticketworld.com.ph
