How Pawning a Laptop Saved a Business

Do you know how much a 12-inch laptop costs when you pawn it at Cebuana Lhuillier? For Donna Bonquin, a young entrepreneur, the amount was enough to keep her business going and survive a week-long financial crisis.

“When you have nothing in your bank, a couple of employees to pay, and projects to get done, pawning can provide the help you need,” she said.

Bonquin said she didn’t expect to run into many problems when she quit her job to start her own business, the Bontella Foodtruck Builders.

No Cash

“Having no cash is very difficult. We build truck bodies and have several workers who depend on us for wages and food. This creates a lot of pressure, especially since I had invested a lot of time and money. I had to wait for clients to pay up after two months,” she revealed.

“At that time, my four bank accounts were empty and I had already borrowed about a P100,000 from my parents. It was embarrassing to ask for more. I had exhausted all the possibilities and didn’t know what to do,” she added as she described one of the lowest points in her business.

Thanks to Cebuana Lhuillier, however, Bonquin was able to overcome this crisis.

Getting Her Wish

“I was quiet when I pawned my laptop, but a million thoughts were running through my mind. I didn’t go to other pawnshops because they only accept gold. I was hoping for the best at Cebuana. Fortunately, I got what I wished for and was given cash in exchange for my gadget,” she said.

Because of this, Bonquin was able to survive. Her clients paid the following week and it was all good from there. So good, in fact, that she now owns a new laptop and SUV.

“None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for Cebuana Lhuillier,” she concluded.
