Filipino elected mayor for the first time ever in the United Kingdom
New mayor Danny Favor was also the UK's first Filipino councilor

Camarines Sur-born Danilo “Danny” Favor has been elected as the new mayor of East Grinstead town in West Sussex, England where he has resided for the past 15 years (having migrated there in to the United Kingdom [UK] in 2000), replacing Rex Whittaker.

This is not the first time Favor has made history, he is also the first-ever Filipino town councilor in the UK, when he made it East Grinstead’s Asphalts Ward council in 2011, and again in 2015, even serving as deputy mayor last year; for this he was recognized by the Philippine Embassy.

Prior to public service, Favor worked as an ophthalmic nurse at the Queen Victoria Hospital. In 2014, he received  the Presidential Banaag Award – a recognition given to overseas Filipino individuals or organizations who have contributed in “advancing the cause of and/or have significantly benefited overseas Filipino communities or sectors.”

The official handover of position between Whittaker and Favor was held on Wednesday, May 15 during an annual council meeting. Favor is currently also the president of the Filipino-British Association.
