Elton John biopic “Rocketman” trailer introduces his story
Get ready to learn how the 71-year old Grammy winner shot to fame

Taron Egerton as Elton John in "Rocketman"

A boy named Reginald Dwight had big dreams of becoming a successful musician. Little did he know that over the years he would have six Grammy Awards, a knighthood, and dozens of songs under a different name that changed his life forever – Elton John.

Directed by Dexter Fletcher, Rocketman will tackle Elton John’s life as a young man growing up in the Royal Academy of Music in London during the 1960s, going on to be one of the biggest singers of all time. The British singer will be portrayed by Taron Egerton (Kingsman), who will also be performing all the songs included in the movie.

The film will also tell the story of his relationship with longtime friend and collaborator Bernie Taupin (played by Jaime Bell), his struggles with depression and vices, and how he eventually accepted being both a homosexual and a public figure. Also starring are Richard Madden as Elton’s manager John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother Sheila.

The trailer gave a brief of what we will be seeing from Rocketman. The film will be a musical-drama, hence expect Elton’s biggest hits to appear such as “Tiny Dancer” and “Your Song” (both which appear in the trailer), and of course “Rocket Man” where the film gets its name.

Elton is told in the trailer that he “has to kill the person he was born to be in order to become the person he wants to be”, and this prompts his name change and a wardrobe change into flashy clothings which he is known for wearing at concerts. From the looks of it, we’re going to be seeing such wild fashion choices that scream Elton John.

After seeing Queen and Freddie Mercury’s story be portrayed in Bohemian Rhapsody (which Fletcher helmed after Bryan Singer was ditched), we can’t wait to see another iconic singer who defied the odds and become a big hit come to the big screen.

Rocketman comes to Philippine theaters on June 19
