A heart full of laughter for Jon Santos’ “Trumperte ATBP.”
Accompanying him on Valentine's Eve are Eric Nicolas and Marissa Sanchez

Some people look for love on Valentine’s Day, while others just need a little laughter. Jon Santos promises you both – maybe more of laughter.

Kicking off his 30th year in the entertainment business, the country’s undoubtedly most prolific political impersonator will take to the stage once more in “Trumperte ATBP.” Expect even more hilarious and explosive impressions by Santos’ characters, MACDonald Trump and Digong DuterHIRTY-HARI.

Santos will also bringing back some of his beloved impersonations such as Manileña Trump, Mochang Frappe & and the Mochang Girls, Gloria Matagal Ayoko, Imelda Marchos, and many more. He won’t be alone though, sharing the stage for a night full of laughs are fellow stand-up comedians Eric Nicolas and Marissa Sanchez.

Returning to political satire

After doing a little theater work such as in “Ang Huling El Bimbo”, Santos is happy to be going back to political satire. On why it took him so long to bring MACDonald and DuterHIRTY-HARI together for a show, he said that “the meeting of the two helped” as well as the events that followed their coming into office.

“[There was] divided conscience after that election season,” reflected Santos, referring to the 2016 elections of both the Philippines and the United States of America, “But [several] topics united the idea there is something to laugh about.” He also gained inspiration from other impersonators such as Alec Baldwin’s Trump in Saturday Night Live.

On why people find even politics funny, Sanchez says it’s “water under the bridge, it’s new.” Nicolas acknowledges the audience as “Pilipino kasi sila, mahilig sila tumawa (They’re Filipinos, they love to laugh)”. Santos added, “They find things to cope with, because we can laugh at these things, they need relief among all the bad news.”

Beyond politics

Some of the country’s recent national events will be parodied such as the transfer of Ferdie McCoy to the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Marchos’ son’s defeat in the 2016 elections, the Philippines’ triumph in Miss Universe, and the upcoming May 2019 elections featuring a whole bunch of aspiring candidates.

This one-night-only show will be the first major standup comedy show in Manila for 2019, and will be happening on February 13 (Wednesday) at 8PM at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila.
