A Greater Need for Self-Care
Be more aware of your BP levels

According to the Philippine School of Hypertension (PSH), one out of four adult Filipinos have high blood pressure (BP), and half of that number do not know that they are hypertensive.

Hypertension, or elevated blood pressure (40 over 90 mmHg or higher), is the leading preventable cause of premature deaths worldwide, with individuals often developing acute myocardial infarction, strokes, and cardiac arrest.

Some attributed causes to high blood pressure are physical inactivity, excessive smoking and alcohol intake, and a salty and fatty diet.

With this, the PSH is calling for people to be more aware and keep a constant tab on their blood pressure measurements, thus allowing potential patients to properly manage treatment of the disease.

A local study showed that while 75% of patients received treatment for hypertension, only 27% of those achieve adequate BP control.

PSH has recently partnered with Omron Healthcare in their promotive effort for guided hypertension treatment. The aforementioned organization provides a wide array of healthcare products for both households and professionals.

In line with promoting self-care, Omron has released new automated BP monitoring devices to provide individuals an easier and more convenient way to measure their blood pressure.

One of these devices is the Omron Blood Pressure HEM-1720, a highly recommended BP monitor by doctors because of its portability and easy-to-use features. The instrument comes with a large LCD screen for easier displays, accurate results provided by advanced IntelliSense technology, detects irregular heartbeat and records previous measurements.

With such an effort, both PSH and Omron Healthcare hope people will be more conscious and take necessary measures to self-care and prevent cardiovascular diseases and potential strokes.
