A Devoted Son’s Tribute To His Mom
Boy Abunda releases his latest book, “Nanay’s Gay Boy”

Boy Abunda with Nanay Lesing

It is no secret that Boy Abunda adores his Nanay Lesing.

Through the years, the award-winning TV host would share snippets of how it was like to be brought up by his loving mom. That is why it’s no surprise when just a few weeks before Christmas, he proudly released his latest book, Nanay’s Gay Boy, by ABS-CBN Publishing.

“Two things come to mind when my name is mentioned—that I’m devoted to my mother and that I’m proudly gay,” stated the 63-year-old in his book.

Aside from his Nanay Lesing, the book also tackles issues about LGBT pride, another topic close to Boy’s heart.

Two of Boy’s more well-known speeches are featured in the book. One was his full commencement speech “Dearest Nanay,” when he was invited as a speaker and received his doctorate degree during the Philippine Women’s University graduation exercises in 2016. The other speech, “Why Can’t We Have A Gay President?”, was delivered in 2016 during the TEDxADMU event in Resorts World Manila.

Through the years, the beloved TV personality has earned the reputation of being a professional in all his dealings. That is why it’s no wonder that he has lasted this long in the industry. And next year, Boy will mark another milestone in his career as he celebrates his 25th year as a TV host. He started hosting in 1994 for “Show & Tell” and later moved on to other shows, such as “Startalk,” “The Buzz,” “Private Conversations,” “Boy & Kris,” “Inside the Cinema,” “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda,” “Aquino and Abunda Tonight,” and his latest “Tonight with Boy Abunda.”

But despite his success and popularity, Boy never forgets his roots and the one person who has been his constant champion. And he has this to say to his loving mom.

“Nanay is the center of my universe. She is the beginning and the end of most of my decisions. Nanay, thank you for teaching me to value my core as it is my truth, for inculcating in me, that who I am is special. That my story, is one that I can be proud of.”
